My puppy vomited a couple of times. He threw up a worm-like thing around the house. What should I do? Should I take him to the ER?

I don't think an ER visit is necessary. It if very likely that your puppy threw up a roundworm, if it looked anything like angel hair pasta. These are common worms called roundworms and are not life threatening but can easily be treated with a dewormer. Just make an appt for Dug first thing in the morning and he should be ok.

If he is behaving normally, you can monitor him until your vet opens. Save the "worm" for examination and submit a stool sample to your vet to diagnose intestinal parasites. If Dug is lethargic, has diarrhea, continues vomiting or refuses food/water, have him seen at the veterinary ER to diagnose illness or injury sooner rather than later.

Hi there. Intestinal parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms are relatively common in dogs, and they do sometimes show up in vomit if a dog has them. As long as your pup is acting normal otherwise (eating and drinking normally, active, etc.), I would not consider this to be an emergency - but I would suggest getting a good broad-spectrum dewormer such as Bayer Quad Dewormer tomorrow and giving it to her. You can dose it according to the directions on the label for her weight. Alternatively, you can take the worm and/or a stool sample from your pup to your vet's office tomorrow so that they can identify it for you, and prescribe a dewormer for her from their office based on the type of worm seen.
