Pups exposed to leptospirosis. Do vaccinated pups need a booster?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 3 days old

My friends dog contracted leptospirosis and my dogs were in contact with his dog. I have nine eleven month old pups and they were vaccinated at 14 weeks with a 7 or 8 way. So my question now is, do I vaccinate them now

If they only had a single vaccine at that age, any protection is incomplete. Depending upon when they last had contact, vaccination will be recommended to prevent them from contracting infection in the future. If contact was close and within the last few days, your vet may recommend preventive antibiotics first. Lepto vaccine is only protective if given before exposure and the full course is given as directed
