Why is my Great Dane lethargic, not eating, and walking strangely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 26 days old | 85 lbs

I have a 1 year old Great Dane, was fine all day, let her outside around 2 and when we called her back in an hour later, her gait seemed strange (hind legs). She came in and laid down, doesn't want to get up, lethargic. Warm, dry nose, pink gums, normal breathing, no outward problems apparent. I've pressed on her belly and around body, no response except wagging tail. She isn't eating or drinking.

She may have bloat (stomach twisting) or even an underlying heart conditon is possible based on your description. I would highly recommmed taking Attie to your local ER vet right away for and examination. This sounds urgent and you want to get her seen right away. I hope everything turns out ok for your poor Attie. Best wishes at the vet.
