Why does my dog have small red spots? Are they bug bites or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 26 lbs

Do you know what could cause these small red spots? Are they bug bites or maybe allergies? She's gotten a couple before and they've gone away on their own in the past. That was a few months ago. I know she likes to crawl under the bed. I'm concerned there might be some kind of bug biting her.

These marks are similar in appearance to marks left by biting flies, such as black flies. I would recommend a product such as Canine Advantix II which helps prevent fleas but also biting flies. Your vet may carry other similar products for your dog as well.
