Dog has a lump on his head and eye. What to do if vet is booked?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 170 lbs

My two year old chocolate lab dog has a huge lump on his head and over his right eye and he has the lump for the past two days now. What do you recommend I do. I can't get a appointment for him until Monday morning because they are booked solid. Please help me I am worried about him. Thank you Holly Waters from Volcano Hawaii

This looks like an emergency and this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Duke should be seen immediately anyway, so you can insist with your vet.
