My dog has mild parvo. What to expect with home treatment & recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 23 days old | 36 lbs

How will my dog act when being treated for a mild case of parvo at home? When will she get to feeling better? I have to force feed her and make her drink by putting it right up to her mouth, she only vomited once today and doesn't have diahreea. Day two of treatment. She has had two out of three parvo shots.

I'm sorry to hear that Mouse is fighting a parvo virus infection. With the outpatient course of treatment I expect she will be pretty lethargic as her body fights the virus, and her appetite will be low. Hopefully your vet is giving her daily cerenia injections to manage nausea, as well as fluids. Each day she should get a little stronger and have less signs of illness. If at any point she seems very weak and floppy, she needs to be hospitalized. Also take her back to the vet if she can't keep food down.
