My allergic cat has a red bump on his head. Emergency vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 6 years and 5 months old | 17 lbs

i noticed a small red raised bump on my cats head, it just showed up as i came in from work yesterday. my cat is 7 years old & has had a history of skin allergies, food allergies and digging and scratching and has caused himself red spots before, was treated w/antibiotics and steroids. this is just one spot though, not sure if its his scratching again, as i've noticed some scratching lately. i can't get him to the vet until saturday, should i take to emergency?

I cannot see the spot myself because you don't have a photo attached here; however, if the small raised bump (likely a papule or pustule) isn't bothering him then I see no need for an ER vet visit. Especially if he is still eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally. Just monitor the area daily until you can get him in to the vet on Saturday. If you are particularly worried about the spot, then I would suggest trying to see if any other vets in the area can get Buster seen sooner. Best of luck with Buster and I hope that his skin issue resolves soon.
