My dog has a broken tooth. Should I see a vet right away or wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 6 months and 19 days old | 15 lbs

My 7 mth old bitch has a broken back tooth. Only the bottom 3rd of the tooth is still there and it is brown in colour. The gum looks normal. I only noticed it the other day. I live in West Africa but am taking her to the UK (where I am from) in 2 weeks. Should I leave it and get it checked by a vet in the UK or does it need action now?

Poor Jenny!! If you are able to have her evaluated by a veterinarian that would be good. If they are not able to do an extraction (I do not know what level of care you have available where you are) they can at least prescribe some antibiotics to help prevent infection, and some pain medications as well. Once you are back in the U.K. please have Je by looked at as soon as possible-the tooth will need to be removed I suspect.
