Kuli has diarrheal. We gave him a different food last night. And the diarrhea started this morning. This afternoon we gave him half of his regular food.about 4 hours later he had diarrhea again. A few hours later we gave him 1 teaspoon of his regular chicken food mixed with rice. He is just lying around. Is there anything more I should do? I think he ate a little grass outside. We have no chemicals on the grass. Should we just wait? Or give him a little food with rice. He has Water..

Make sure he is drinking approriately. Wait 4-6 hours and offer abbot of chicken and rice again. If he continues to have diarrhea, has blood in his stool or begins vomiting he needs to be seen immediately. Yorkie s can become dehydrated fairly quickly as they are so little.

Some cases of mild diarrhea from a diet change respond to a bland diet (white rice, cottage cheese, etc) for a few days then a gradual return to their previous diet. If Kuli is drinking water and not vomiting that may work in this case. However if the diarrhea is bloody, there is any vomiting or he stops drinking then it could be something more serious like pancreatitis and he should be seen by a veterinarian.

Hi there and thanks for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what it sounds like, the vomiting and diarrhea could be cause by the change of food formula and the chicken from the table. If all else is normal and she appears okay and drinking water, you may wait until tomorrow to take her in. I would hold off on the food for a few hours until her stomach settles down. Always a good idea to have Richard examined by a veterinarian to ensure there is nothing more concerning causing the vomiting and diarrhea, but no real need to go tonight unless she worsens. I hope this has helped and best wishes to you!
