Chihuahua birthed one pup, still pregnant, not eating. Emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 6.5 lbs

Yesterday my chihuahua birthed one pup however when it was born it was not breathing. We tried everything and couldn't get the pup to breathe. Since then, she has not had another one but still has more. We tried checking her birth canal but felt nothing there. Every once in awhile it looks as though she is pushing. I do not know what to do and we have searched literally everywhere on the web for answers. Please help. She also refuses to eat or drink anything.

Your dog needs to go to the emergency vet right away. If she still has puppies and it has been since yesterday that the first was born, your dog needs to have a c-section to get the other puppies out. I would head to the vet right away. It is possible some puppies may still be alive, but not a guarantee, but if she doesn't get the pups out, her life will be in danger.
