My dog ate weed and is wobbly. Is it an emergency? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 12 years and 3 months old | 80 lbs

My 8olb Golden Retriever ate .5 grams of my marijuana dabs/oil last night. Now he is wobbly and seems off balance. Will he be ok? How long will this last?

Unfortunately that can cause severe side effects and life threatening sedation and coma. I would strongly recommend to have him checked as soon as possible. Austin probably will need intensive care and monitoring. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

A trip to the vet is recommended. It can take several days for side effects to resolve with marijuana. We can see difficulty in regulation of body temperature, seizures, and slowed heart rate. Supportive care is recommended for these guys and may include heat support, activated charcoal to decrease absorption, and IV fluids. Here is an article FYI http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1382, and do not hesitate to seek treatment for fear of getting into trouble. The vet just cares about helping your dog!
