My dog has crusty, bleeding eyes. Should I use cream or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | 3.5 lbs

So my dog get this nasty crust / gunk in his eyes from crying , so it has gotten worst where cutting it off it leaves a bald spot or as of now his flesh is showing a little and he bleeds when he scratches his eye. We usually clean it out every two weeks but now it's bad. We are not sure what to do at this point . Is there a cream to put on it or take him to an animal hospital .

Discharge that leads to thick crusting in the corners of the eyes can be caused by several things. Having him evaluated by a veterinarian is definitely recommended. They may evaluate several things including making sure there is nothing in the eye irritating it (such as an eyelash rubbing the eye), checking tear production , and looking for signs of allergic irritation or corneal injury/ulceration. In the meantime you can use a warm cloth to clean the crust.
