Puppy bladder infection: Why is she still peeing often on antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 5 days old | 17 lbs

My puppy is 9 weeks and she was diagnosed with bacteria in her bladder. The doctor put her on antibiotics for 10 days. The urine was cultured so they made sure what antibiotic would effect the bacteria. She has 2 days left on her meds but is continuing peeing every 10 to 15 minutes and at times when she doesn't even know she is peeing. Should I be concerned that her antibiotics aren't working? When she knows she has to pee and poop she rings her bells so I don't feel this is behavioral.

This is certainly not normal after antibiotic therapy. I would recommend a repeat urinalysis with culture and sensitivity. I am concerned there is another bacteria that is flourishing. An ultrasound would also be helpful to examine the bladder and ensure there are no congenital abnormalities or secondary problems. Poor puppy!
