My dog just ate two chocolate donuts. No signs or symptoms as of yet. Should I wait it out or go to the vet.

I would take Kennedy into the vet now. It can take from 4-24 hours for symptoms of chocolate toxicity to occur, and it's best to prevent any from occurring. The vet can give Kennedy a shot to safely induce vomiting, so I would take her into a vet right away.

It is definitively too late for any intervention now. Given she did not develop any sign so far it is unlikely she will in the next hours. I would suggest just to monitor the possible onset of clinical signs like vomiting and diarrhea, increased thirst, panting or restlessness, excessive urination, and a racing heart rate. If any I would recommend a check up and more appropriate treatment. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

With Rusty's weight and the amount of dark chocolate he is, he will experience a severe toxic reaction to this chocolate. It can take up to four hours for symptoms to appear, and these symptoms include vomiting, tremors in the muscles, abnormal heart rhythms, hyperthermia, seizures, and possibly death. This is a medical emergency. There will be a vet on call for the evening, and I would call local clinics to find a vet on call. The information for reaching a vet on call is typically on their answering machine. You can also see if there is an ER clinic in your area. Please take Rusty into a vet immediately.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for providing so much information! Based on your dogs weight and how much dark chocolate he ate, he should be fine! Just watch to see if he develops any gastro-intestinal upset or pancreatitis which may appear as not wanting to eats, vomiting or diarrhea.
