My dog needs urinary food, but prescription is too expensive. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 8 years and 2 months old

My beagle has urinary tract issues. She's had stones before and is now placed on prescription food. She's doing better now. Our only problem is the food. It is very expensive and becoming a budget problem. I don't want to do something that could possibly cause more infections and pain. Are there any other good food brands or formulas that I can buy that are on the more average side of the price spectrum? Help please! (The food she has now is about $100 a month 'Royal Canine Urinary SO')

This does depend somewhat on the type of stones she developed and any other triggers. I recommend you discuss this with your vets to determine the most appropriate options but generally a high fluid intake from wet food is preferable especially where a urinary diet cannot be fed
