My puppy had parvo. Is soft stool normal during his recovery period?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Male | neutered | 7 months and 7 days old | 11.6 lbs

My 7 mth puppy was diagnosed with parvo 3 wks ago. The only symptom was diarrhea with blood. We got antibiotics the next day. After 2 lots he went back on normal food. After a week he suddenly had one bout of diarrhea no blood. Then all was fine for 3 days then another lot. His poo can be quite soft at times. My vet is away so one I don't know took my call & said just put him on bland diet for a couple of days but don't worry. Is this normal? I'm worried but he is full of life, eating & drinking

It sounds like a reasonable approach, since your puppy has recovered from parvo but his tummy is still quite sensitive and delicate. If Jet is still eating and lively I would not worry at this stage but feed him a bland diet for 3-4 days then gradually reintroduce his usual diet if feaces are solid.
