Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 25 days old
Dear vet I have a 1 year-old British Short hair, which we castrated when he was around 6 months old. He is an indoor cat, so he rarely gets outside. Recently I have noticed that Toto is drinking more water, he has lost a bit weight, comparing to when he was younger and actually ate meat, and finally, that his urine smells very strongly of ammoniac. Is there something wrong with him? I'm so worried. Kind regards Nad

Possible and common differentials for this presentation are diabetes mellitus, renal failure (eventually with urinary tract infection associated) , hyperthyroidism, liver problems. A check up urine analysis and a blood test would be the first steps to start investigating the problem and reach a diagnosis. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation (where you can post pictures ) if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
