My dog is vomiting and has bloody diarrhea. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 65 lbs

We are keeping our son's Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix and he has thrown up in the last hour and now has just had a very loose stool with what looks like spots of bright red blood in it. He has eaten very little today but has not gotten in to anything that we are aware of. Should we be concerned?

He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer Sam boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating or if blood is still present in the feces, take him to the vet to get treatment.
