My puppy has tapeworms in her stool after deworming. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 12 days old

When we got our puppy she didn't have worms and we wormed worked her last week and got her rabies shot two days ago. She also only had one 7 way shot and due for her next set. I noticed this morning she has tape worms in her stool. What should I do since I just wormed her?

Not every deworming medication treats every type of worms. There is a chance that the initial dewormer that you used on Dixie did not treat tapeworms. Since she is due for her next DAPP vaccine, be sure to mention the tapeworms to her vet so they can prescribe an appropriate dewormer. Some over the counter dewormers, such as Panacur, can treat some species of tapeworms, but they do not treat all species.
