Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

my dog is waking up about two hours earlier than usual the last three mornings, kind of frantically eating grass and once she threw up bike the two other times she's been fine since. Any idea of what this could be?

Oh no, poor Daisy! It could be that she is suffering from a GI illness or may have eaten something rotten causing her to feel nauseous. Dogs can eat grass when they feel nauseous, and being nauseous would lead her to vomit. Given that she has only vomited once, I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps Daisy. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Sometimes dogs eat grass in order to get rid of something they ate , or to alleviate pain in the stomach. If she keeps eating grass and throwing up intermittently, you should take her to a veterinarian for an exam. She may have an inflammation of the lining of the stomach that should be adressed.
