Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 13 years and 3 months old | 13 lbs
My cat has been chewing on things for the last few years. She has chewed up the corners of drawers, the legs of tables and chairs, and even drywall. I originally thought that my dogs were doing it but I discovered that it was my cat. Is there anything I should be concerned about? Is this normal? Why does she do it?

I would potentially be concerned that there is a nutritional deficiency, however if you are feeding a high quality commercial cat food that is less of a concern. Another possible explanation is the presence of a medical condition, such as a liver problem or anemia. Since this is a problem that has been going on for several years, it may be due more to a behavioral problem as opposed to a medical problem, but if you have not done so I would recommend getting her checked out by your vet (also run labwork to be thorough). If all is well consider using a product like Bitter Apple ( to deter the chewing.
