Since dogs are carnivores, do they need vegetables or veggie snacks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

Since dogs are carnivores does that mean they don't technically need vegetables? should I not be feeding them as snacks? I like to feed them because they are low calorie and I always assumed they were good for them. I'm feeding my dog a half a cup of kibble per day with a 1/4 cup of canned. Both these things already contain vegetables. If I didn't include the vegetables I would be able to give he slightly more kibble. (4 grams) Would this be better?

You don't have to give Chloe any veggies. You can give them as an occasional snack, but her kibble will provide all the nutrients she needs to be healthy. I would cut back in the veggies and give her slightly more kibble :-)
