Why is my cat suddenly going to the litter box so often?

Barney is suddenly going to the litter box multiple times a day. Appears to be urinating. will go 8-10 times in an hour, then be fine for a few hours. Seems most active when one of us comes home or gets up. This has been going on for two days. Pet's info: Cat | Siberian | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 20 lbs
