My unneutered male dog fought. Can neutering prevent aggression?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 55 lbs

My 18 month dog played with another dog today , they were playing quite rough , my dog seemed more submissive however the other dog kept getting on my dog humping him and holding him I went to take my dog away but things escalated quick and a dog fight occurred , the owners got there dog but my dog kept going back as I couldnt catch him , I got my dog and both dogs weren't hurt but this makes me not want to allow him to play with other dogs anymore. Both dogs were male and not neutered.

Because they are both unneutered, likely the aggression was due to hormones. Intact dogs can be aggressive towards each other over things like territory and females, and the best thing you can do is neuter Blue if you don't plan on mating him. That will not only have not only positive behavioral affects, but it will also have many health benefits for him. If you do plan on mating him, then I would not allow him to play with intact male dogs.
