My dog has diarrhea and vomiting. What's the best way to help her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My black lab mix (1.5 yrs) has been experiencing diarrhea for the past 24 hours. Not explosive. She paces around until I can let her out. I'd say she's gone 6-8 times this way in the pst 24 hours. I've been putting pumpkin purée in her food since it started. Then this AM she threw up twice. She did get sick like this once before but it didn't last as long and got better after she threw up + the pumpkin.

SHe might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues vomiting or is not eating, take her to the vet to get treatment.

I am sorry daisy is not feeling well. vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by gastric upset, parasites, foreign object obstruction or infections. I would recommend trying a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice in small meals for the next 12-24 hours. IF daisy continues to vomit/diarrhea I would recommend taking her to the vet for a good physical exam and possible abdominal x-ray to make sure she does not have anything in her stomach causing the vomiting. I hope Daisy feels better soon and thanks for using pet coach
