My dog has lumps under her chin growing into her mouth. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 47 lbs

I noticed about a month ago that my dog grew a large bump under her chin but within a few days it seperated into 3 small lumps and then one disappeared. Now the other 2 just keep getting bigger and the one is starting to grow up the right side of her jaw into her mouth. What could this be? And should I be worried? Or not because 1 disappeared.

Every lump which increases in size is a concern. Abscesses, lymph nodes, tumors and salivary cysts all develop in this area and i strongly recommend a full vet check as soon as possible. They may wish to sample the lumps to determine the underlying cause

The lumps could be abscesses due to a sudden infection, or could be fast growing skin masses. I would suspect that they could also be enlarged lymph nodes but it is impossible to give you a more specific answer without seeing a photo. I would be concerned about any lump appearing so quickly so would have them checked at the vet just in case.
