Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 26 days old | 8 lbs
Hello, My partner and I adopted a 8 week old female Corgi just last weekend. The breeder warned us about parvovirus and that since she did not have her second round of shots she should avoid other dogs. The breeder even implied we should avoid contact with other humans who have dogs. This would not be an issue, however, due to a death in the family my father would be passing through town after staying with people who own dogs (and has a dog). Is it safe for someone for him to come?

The breeder is correct that Edith should avoid contact with other dogs if you do not know their vaccination status, but she can have contact with dogs who are fully vaccinated. Parvovirus can be carried a person's shoes and clothes, which is why the breeder implied avoiding contact with people who have dogs. That being said, as long as the dogs at the home where your father is staying are fully vaccinated, there is no problem with him coming to see you :-)

Congratulations on your new addition! I'm glad that the breeder mentioned that Edith should not be in contact with other dogs until she is fully vaccinated. I recommend vaccinating for distemper/parvovirus every 3-4 weeks until puppies are at least 16 weeks old. If a person is directly in contact with a dog that is actively shedding parvovirus, there is a chance that they can transfer it to another dog. However, I find it a little extreme to say that Edith cannot be around people who may have been near healthy dogs. The chance of her acquiring a parvovirus infection is minuscule.
