My dog was bitten. How to help her overcome trauma with other dogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 11 months and 7 days old | 23.5 lbs

My dog got bit in the face at 4 months and I thought spaying her would help her behaviors but they've only gotten worse. Is there any way I can treat her trauma for her to get along better with dogs?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what behaviors you are referring to in terms of Panda. I'm not sure if she is aggressive to other dogs, or simply very frightened by them. If she is aggressive, I recommend getting a referral to a professional behavioral expert. I never advise owners to train aggressive dogs on their own due to safely reasons. It can be very dangerous to work with an aggressive dog, and that is best left to a professional. If I haven't answered your question, I apologize and ask that you please post again with more details about her behaviors so I or another expert can answer your question more fully.

Try acclimating her slowly to a small dog. Do this gradually (by smell/hearing, then by sight, then physical interaction) on neutral ground. Use a leash at all times and a muzzle if necessary. Praise and reward her as she progresses. Correct any aggressive or negative behavior immediately. The use of a pheromone product such as the Adaptil collar may decrease any anxiety or aggression. A consult with a veterinary behavioral specialist and/or certified trainer may be of benefit if she does not progress.
