Can a cat be spayed while nursing? Or Do I have to wait until the kittens are weaned? I want this to be her only litter.

It would be better to wait until she has weaned the kittens before having her spayed. However, you do need to keep her indoors and away from intact tomcats until the procedure is done because she can become pregnant again soon after giving birth.

Thank you so much for reaching out to Pet Coach about Johnnie. I would recommend to get her spayed 10-12 weeks after she had her kitten. Keep her inside as some females will come into heat quickly after the kitten is weaned and you don' want another litter! Take care.

Hello. You want to wait until the kittens are completely weaned & no longer dependant on her for milk. Generally, about 2 weeks after the kittens are eating solid food well is a good time to spay mom. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
