It can be normal for cats to have some irritation of their bladder and urethra for the first few days after being un-blocked, so you may see some straining and he may only urinate small amounts at a time. He should be on some medications to help manage this, but if not you can call your vet and ask if there is something they can give you to help - often pain medication and muscle relaxers are helpful for this problem. However, some cats do re-block shortly after being sent home from the hospital - if he goes more than 24 hours without producing a normal-sized clump of urine in the litter box, or if he is vomiting or not eating, take him back to the vet immediately so that they can check his bladder.

Every patient is differnet but urinary tract spasm and inflammation can be very frustrating to treat as it is very unpredicatable - as a general rule of thumb we would expect good function to return by 3-5days as long as the bladder can be expressed without difficulty/blockage has not returned but some cats can be very reluctant to urinate in a clinic setting, Pain relief and muscle relaxants can help as can pheromone diffusers if he is anxious and stressed due to hospitalisation. Often siting with him and grooming him can help he be more comfortable

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Milo. Poor boy. Given his history and now he's going to the litter box a number of times without peeing, I think he does need to go back to the vet immediately. Best of luck.

Poor Oscar! The fact that he is producing urine is a good sign. You want to see him continue and start to produce more and more. If he appears to get duller or stop urinating take him back to the vet.
