My dog's armpit rash is swelling. Is it serious? What should I do?

My dog has had a rash in his armpits for the past week and now one of them has started swelling. Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 months and 14 days old

Your pet is having a moderate skin allergic reaction it appears and it is starting to spread and worsen. I would recommend that you take him into the vet for immediate action that will slow this down and stop the reaction. He sounds like he could use some steroids and anti-histamine combination therapy. You can try Benadryl at home to see if there is improvement before going to the vet if he seems stable enough; however it may not be strong enough. Benadryl 1mg/lb every 8-12 hrs. You can also cleanse the areas cool water and a puppy oatmeal based shampoo from your local pet store. You have to find out what in his environment caused this reaction (i.e. change in bedding, constant grass exposure, new shampoo used, etc) and remove the culprit or suspected antigen (thing he reacted to).
