Biography
It can be difficult to find reliable, trustworthy information about pet health online. One of the challenges people face is keeping ourselves educated and informed in regards to our animals' health. This is especially scary when our companions are ill, behaving badly, or if they've ingested something not meant for them. Sometimes we need help gathering and interpreting the information we find, and sometimes we can't find any information at all.
For twenty years working both in clinic and with the national animal poison control center, I was startled by the lack of accurate information online. When it comes to any poison aside from the common, well-known foods, the web is virtually empty of information. When we're facing a need to have expensive treatments and consultations explained, or even to seek a second opinion, this is particularly frustrating.
I am happy to help you with all of that. I am a certified veterinary technician, and I graduated from the Bel-Rea Institute of Veterinary Technology in 2005. I started working in general practice, assisting in surgery and routine health management for a year before moving to Illinois with my son and my cat. I immediately started working with an orthopedic surgeon, assisting in numerous surgeries, but specializing in TPLOs/TTAs for torn cruciate ligaments. In 2009, I started the slow, but sure process of obtaining a secondary degree from the University of Illinois. During this process I made a move from clinical practice to toxicology.
I took to toxicology like a fish to water. I found the subject to be fascinating, and during my time with poison control, I wrote papers and toxicological briefs that were published in veterinary medical journals and veterinary handbooks. I taught several courses of continuing education to veterinary professionals in all walks of life. I currently write and maintain a website at threatstopets.com with poison prevention and pet poison information for pet parents like yourself.
My job as an expert is to help you in understanding your pet's health. I am privileged to be able to explain diseases, signs, medications, behavior, or treatments with you so you are best equipped in making the right health decisions for your furry companion.
