Whit was a stray who had a wound behind his ear from earmites (now treated). We're tasked with putting SSD cream on until it's healed. It looks like it's healing well, but then Whit shakes his head every once and a while and part of the scab just comes right off (I know it's this and not him scratching at it) The wound ends up looking raw once again (in the pic you can see this on the top). Can I do anything to stop this or should I just hope that the next scabs are better at staying put?

If shaking alone causes the scab to come off there may not be much else to do other than continue with the topical SSD cream prescribed by your vet. If Whit is scratching at all an e-collar might help. I would be a little concerned about infection based on your picture but it can be difficult to tell - if you've seen any new discharge or there is a foul smell you should let your vet know. If it doesn't seem to be improving in the next few days it would probably be best to touch base with your vet to see what they would recommend next.
