Why is my puppy limping, tired, and has bumps under his fur?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 12 days old | 55 lbs

My puppy is limping also tired a lot lately and diarrhea but the diarrhea stopped and now has bumps under his fur I’ll be taking him to the vet tomorrow but can you tell me what could be wrong with him

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Kyro. Poor boy! Limping means he is in pain, and he may have injured himself. Being in pain will cause him to be tired too. The bumps may be due to hives. Taking him into the vet tomorrow if the best thing for him. I hope this helps!

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! I can see the bump you are referring to in the wrist area. This can be a mass, bone cyst, fracture, or infection of the joint and is likely painful. I recommend having your dog seen by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can take x-rays to determine exactly what is going on. i hope this helps and that all is well!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Dexter is limping! Young dogs can limp for a number of reasons including trauma, "growing pains", developmental abnormalities, infection or inflammation of the bones, joints, or surrounding soft tissue structures. I would recommend restricting Dexter's activity for at least 7 days to see if rest will help his limp resolve. If this does not help or if the limp gets worse at any time, I recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian. Many Petcos have wellness centers that provide comprehensive veterinary care. This way, Dexter can have a complete physical exam performed to better localize his pain. The veterinarian will examine the lame leg(s) from the tip of his toes, all the way up to his spine to look for evidence of pain. He/she may recommend x-rays of the leg(s) to look for evidence of trauma. Just a reminder to NEVER give dogs any pain medication that is intended for humans, as these can be lethally tox

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. Oh no. Poor guy. This type of injury where you have vocalization, limping, and swelling definitely needs to be looked at by your veterinarian. A thorough physical exam of the area and potentially radiographs of the bones are needed here to provide the care that Stormy needs after an injury to this degree. I would highly recommend taking him in to be seen as soon as you can. You are not going to be able to care for an injury like this at home. For tonight, its best to just keep Stormy quiet in an isolated room without any other pets to disturb him and apply a cold compress to the swollen area, if tolerated, for about 3-5 mins. Using a bag of peas will suffice. I do hope that you are able to get Stormy some medical attention soon. Best of luck and take care.

My dog is facing bumps and limps I,m not sure what is it what should i do to cure and to prevent in future plz help my dog
I am sorry to hear about Rambo. The lumps we see here make me concerned he could have hives, or an allergic reaction to something. We often treat this with diphenhydramine (an antihistamine) and a steroid, in addition to bathing in case a topical allergen was encountered. If they are not hives we would be worried about a skin tumor, but without seeing your dog and getting an in depth history that is difficult to determine. Limping can be from a wide variety of problems ranging from an injury to a toe nail, a torn ligament, a fracture, a tumor, tick borne disease, and more. I would recommend getting Rambo in to the vet to address these issues and determine what is causing them to better guide treatment.

Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco! So sorry to hear about Tank. Normally resting the leg is a good start but trying to rest puppies can be very challenging. You could confine him to a crate and not allow him to play with the others for a few days and see if the problem improves. Leash walks only also, no off leash activity and no playing. Possible reasons for the limp include some kind of trauma affecting the bone or soft tissues of the leg, a developmental problem, a nutritional problem, or an inflammatory/infectious problem. Injuries to the nails and foot pads can be very painful thus leading to limping. The best advice is after resting, if the problem continues, please see your veterinarian. A physical exam, orthopedic exam, and imaging studies (xrays) may be used to determine why Tank is limping. I hope Tank improves soon.

I would be looking into the possibility of this being something affecting the joints per se such as immune mediated polyarthritis or perhaps something like hypertrophic osteodystrophy given his young age. These are possible things your veterinarian can look into. Treatment of course would depend on findings. At the very least they can try pain control medications and anti-inflammatory drugs. I would definitely take him to see your vet. He may have a hidden injury, the shifting lameness could indicate a condition affecting his bones called panosteitis, which is seen in growing puppies, usually large breeds. Since he's feeling poorly overall, I think the sooner he sees the vet, the better. Your vet will do an exam, probably labwork and x-rays, and based on these results, will be better able to inform you about your dog's condition and how best to treat it.

Poor guy! He really needs to be examined by a vet for a work-up and treatment. He could have a skin infection or an auto-immune disease causing his problems. Your vet can do a culture or skin biopsy to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat his problem. He might need an antibiotic, corticosteroid, or other medications depending on the cause. Hope he feels better soon!
