My dog accidentally got a double Nexgard dose. Will she be okay?

I accidentally gave my 9 pound dog a double dose of Nexgard. Will it hurt her?? Is she going to be ok???

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center with your question about Birdie. The good news is that Nexgard is a very safe drug. No adverse reactions were observed in healthy Beagle puppies over 8 weeks of age when treated with 5 times the maximum dose repeated 6 times at intervals of 2-4 weeks. She should be fine! Thank you for submitting your question regarding Grace. Nexgard is typically a safe drug. Animal safety studies were performed on Beagle puppies during product development. These dogs received doses up to 5x the standard dose and had no adverse effects. If Grace is otherwise healthy, she should be fine. She can always see her veterinarian though if you are concerned. My one year old boxer just ate a NexGard 5 days after her last dose. Will she be okay?
NexGard has a large margin of safety if as dog gets or eats multiple doses. Monitor for GI upset and feed a bland diet for a few days to settle the stomach. Your dog will likely suffer no ill effects.

I have two dogs each about 55-60 lbs. One or both of them ate 1 or 2 nexgard flea medication of a 25-59 lb dose. What steps should I take to ensure they do not become ill? Thank you
The good news is that Nexgard is a safe flea medication. Vomiting and diarrhea have been seen when a dog is given five times the recommended dose. If your dogs only had at most two of these dose, then you should not see any adverse effects from it :-)

I gave my dog a double dose of simparica. It's the up to 44 lb dose and shes 37
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Rockelle. She should be ok. According to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment." You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

I gave my 3 week pregnant dog next guard by mistake. What can I do.
While the safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding or lactating dogs has not been evaluated, I have not yet heard any specifically adverse effect of Nexguard in pregnant dogs. You have a choice: If you are afraid it may affect the puppies, you can go to a PetER and have the vet give her apomorphine to regurgitate the Nexgard, This will only work, if she ingested it within the past two hours. Or you can do nothing and hope all is well.

My dog is on Nexgard every 30 days. I realized she has gained 2 lbs in the last few months, so I’ve been underdosing her on the Nexgard by accident. Will she still be protected by fleas if she’s just 1-2 lbs over the dose weight? Or will she require
She'll probably be fine for this month if she's just a pound or two over. But in the future, if she's gained a bit of weight and is now borderline or just over the maximum weight for her current dose, I would get the next size up. Nexgard has a very wide margin of safety, so the manufacturer recommends "rounding up" if a dog is near the upper limit of the weight range. :)

My vet prescribed Nexguard as a flea & tick prevention medication. Is it safe? I've heard it harms dogs.
If given at appropriate dosage Nexgard is safe and does not harm dogs at all. In my experience I had few negative feedback regarding efficacy. But overall I consider it a good product. A few hours ago I gave my dog 1 chewable dose of Heartgard Plus along with 1 chewable Nexgard. He’s super out of it, sleepy,huddled up in his crate instead of coming to my bed like he always does. He also had diarrhea when I walked him. I checked his
He should be OK. Don't give him the next dose of the medications until March 1st and even then, it is best to give one drug one day, wait a few days and then give the other. Giving them at the same time may be too hard on his system.

My dog was given her trifexis yesterday, but then my roommate didn’t know I gave it to her and he gave her another dose today. Will she be ok? She is a 72 lb GSD.
This medication contains a combination of Spinosad and Milbemycin. Milbemycin can be used safely in dogs for heartworm prevention but has other uses as well, and can be given at a dose two to four times the normal dose that we use for heartworm prevention, so I would not worry at all about a higher then normal dose of that medication. Spinosad is used for flea prevention and is a relatively safe drug. The most common side effects seen with its use include a decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and rarely, in dogs with a low seizure threshold, possible seizures. Studies on research dogs showed no long term effects on dogs that were given TEN times the recommended dose. Side effects that were seen at that high dose included nausea, vomiting, a decrease in appetite and some diarrhea. She will probably be OK but all you can do at this stage is monitor her for any signs of toxicity. If any are noticed she needs to see a vet immediately.

My dog accidently got Frontline and Next guard. We washed him but i am worried that he still might be in danger. Should i take him to the hospital ?
Hello and thank you for your post! This combination will not likely cause any side effects. Ideally only one should be given at a time but not nexgard and frontline together should be ok. I would, however, monitor your dog for any symptoms such as tremors, seizures, excessive salivation, lethargy and get your dog seen as soon as possible by an emergency vet for treatment.
