My dog's abdomen is distended and hard. Do his X-rays show a tumor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

These xrays are of my 8 year old male english bulldog in March 2020. We took him in for gagging/hacking after eating. They said everything is normal in his torso/lungs and maybe its his trachea. This week we noticed he is distended on his right side, just below his last rib. It feels hard and we worry it's a tumor or a problem with an organ. He has several other small lumps that have also appeared in the last 2 weeks in other places. Is there anything on his xrays that looks abnormal?

On the 1st X-ray I am a little concerned that there is some loss of detail in the middle part of his abdomen; right behind the stomach. This could possible be a tumor or free fluid. if you are noticing a distended abdomen (something that seems to be protruding from the inside; not a lump on the skin) I would recommend a recheck with your vet and recheck abdominal x-rays (3 view x-rays - one of each of his sides and one where he will lay on his back; things can be missed if you only take views where he lays on his side). A tumor could grow in that amount of time and it's better to catch it earlier if you want to pursue treatment such as surgery to remove it. I hope this helps and I wish you and your pup all the best!
