My dog has trouble breathing, runny nose, and hair loss. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Long Coat) | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

Something is clearly wrong with my Dads dog. However either he is fibbing or the lovely people at our local banfield petsmart are crazy because he says that they say he is fine! He can barely breathe, his nose is all crusty on outside and he always has a running nose. His hair started falling out and has continued to get worse and when I bathed him I noticed that his chest is extended more so on the left than right but both are extended. I don't know what to do for him. He desperately needs help

I agree with you, Coco is not fine. I really don't think a vet would say he is fine. I suggest you get him to a different vet for a second opinion. I don't have enough information here to be helpful. It looks like may have pneumonia. I realize he has some skin issues too but those are likely secondary. I would be most worried about his breathing. This may be very serious. Please take him to a vet ASAP. You have to get a diagnosis before you can know what to do for him.
