My dogs were near a skunk but didn't get sprayed. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 19 lbs

I smelled what seemed like a skunk outside so I brought my 2 dogs in. I don’t think they’ve been scratched or bitten since they seem fine and are acting as usual. Should I be worried? They definitely did not get sprayed on because they smell nice and clean.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about your dogs. I suspect that if they had gotten anywhere close to the skunk, they would have been sprayed on. Since they smell clean, no need to worry! I hope this helps!

Dogs unfortunately love to sniff (and even lick or eat) other dead animals, so it was great that you were able to act quickly and keep Jordy from eating whatever that was. It sounds like you keep him up to date on all of his vaccines, which is excellent. As long as he continues to act normally (eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally), and is otherwise healthy, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!

We have aunts for some reason and waterbugs sometimes. Butmy mom sprayed around the house outside and some places inside and my dog came in contact of a waterbugs he didn't eat it but he did bite down on it trying to kill it. Should my dog be okay?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Snikcers should be fine. I would be more worried if he came in contact with an area that was sprayed. We can't even be sure that this particular bug even contacted the chemical. To be safe you can always rinse his mouth out well with water and wash his face. Have a great day!

My dogs got sprayed by a skunk 12 days ago, today my dog puked up green bile filled with black fur so I went outside to check for a dead animal but all I found was black and white fur and two small bones. I'm worried my dogs may have eaten this whole
I would recommend contacting your veterinarian, to see if the dog should have the Rabies vaccination updated. Depending on when they were last vaccinated, it may be recommended to Booster them if skunks are rabies vectors in your area. If there was only the one episode of vomiting, you can continue to monitor for any signs of vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or pain which could indicate G.I. obstruction or problem from ingesting bones or pancreatitis if they ate a rotting carcass. My dog picked up a dead bug that had been killed with bug spray but he spit it out. He DID NOT ingest the dead bug. Do I need to do anything?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While it is not possible to know for sure how much he ingested, it was unlikely to be any substantial amount. For that reason, Chigger may be just fine. I would recommend that you watch him closely and if he does show symptoms such as decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and/or discomfort have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, he is likely going to be ok. Best of luck!

Hello, my dog got sprayed by a skunk last night. I gave her a bath and she seems to be acting normal. Is there anything I need to be mindful? She is still playful and is eating normal but I want to keep an eye out for signs if she isn't okay. Thanks
There should be no ill effects apart from the smell :) The only problems we will usually see from skunk spraying is irritation of the eyes if they get sprayed in the eyes - so if you notice any squinting of the eyes you should wash them out through this eye wash and/or eye gel. You may be able to purchase these at your local Petco. If not, you can buy online. It is possible that this is a skin reaction to the skunk spray or this could be due to the various shampoos and topicals that you have been using. These bumps are likely due to irritation. I would recommend having Rocky examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. He will likely need the hair clipped away from his neck and be placed on a course of oral antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory medication. I hope this helps! Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I think it is fine if they sit on your lap after you come inside. Unless you saturate yourself and are still damp with spray they should be fine. Your pets can get sick if they lick to much of it. I hope this helps!

Does the dog feel skin irritation in their first haircut?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! As long as they aren't irritated by the products used and they aren't cut too close resulting in razor burn they shouldn't. I HAVE seen dogs present to the Vet with skin irritation after being groomed. It doesn't happen to ALL dogs though. Good luck!
