My senior dog is aggressive and in pain. When should I say goodbye?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | neutered | 8.4 lbs

I have a min pin who is at least 11. He was severely abused as a puppy 3 broken legs and his tail snapped in several places. He has terrible arthritis, is becoming more aggressive (he recently bit someone and has randomly attacked my roommate and I), he shakes constantly. Is it time to consider putting him down? I don't even know if I could he's my best friend. I'm conflicted and lost.

I'm so sorry you are facing this decision with Peanut! It's such a hard thing to do, but if he is becoming more aggressive, yes I would say it's time. It's not that you don't love him, but he's likely painful from the arthritis, which can make him act aggressively. Plus he's bitten someone, and randomly attacked you and your roommate. He's not safe to be around, and I do think it's the best decision. I hope this helps!
