Was putting my sick 14-year-old dog to sleep the right decision?

Hi. We decided to put our 14-year-old dog to sleep because he was sick. According to the vet his liver was inflamed. I cant help but wonder if it was to soon? He was walking around but he was vomiting, had diarrhea with blood, also have 0 appetite, and did not want to drink water. Please help me ease my nerves.
