My dog ate trash, is lethargic & gurgling. Should I go to ER vet?

Hello! My dog got into our trash last night. He's normally very high energy and today he's seemed very lethargic and not himself. His stomach has started making gurgling sounds. Is this something that I should take him to the emergency vet for? He hasn't been interested in food all day (not normal) but hasn't had any vomiting or diarrhea.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Parker. Oh no, that's not good. If he got into the trash and is now very lethargic, isn't interested in food, and his stomach is making gurgling sounds, I'm concerned he ate something causing these symptoms. Yes, I think it's best you take him into an ER vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Hi and thank you for posting your question on Boop by Petco! It sounds like getting into the trash the other day and eating food from the garage she should not have eaten may be causing stomach upset and disinterest in eating her normal food. If she is lethargic and not herself, then I would take her into a veterinary hospital as soon as possible. She may have ingested something toxic in the garage like chocolate, onions, grapes, garlic or other toxin that could have made her sick. Another possibility may be eating items with lots of sugar and fat in them which can cause pancreatitis which can be very painful and could explain the lack of appetite. Another possibility is eating items like nectarine pits or other chunky solid food items may have caused an obstruction in her intestines. She is likely stretching frequently perhaps because she is in some discomfort in abdominal area and she may be trying to get some relief. My best advice to you is to take her in as soon as possibl

Yes, if he had something like bloat, you would see pacing, restlessness, excessive drooling, and attempting to vomit but unable to do. If he had something like pancreatitis, which can happen when a dog eats fatty food, you would see abdominal pain, hunched over position, and vomiting. If you see any of those signs, have him seen by a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Yes, i would definitely be taking odie in as soon as possible. It is likely he is dehydrated and nauseous and may need intravenous fluids alongside diagnosis. Obstruction from swallowing foreign bodies and severe gastroenteritis or pancreatitis would be high on the list of suspicions

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, he should see a veterinarian. He may not be eating due to dietary indiscretion from eating the bird or mouse or it could even be due to a gastrointestinal obstruction. I am afraid that if he is not drinking water he may be becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and most importantly start him on medications to make him feel better. Poor Aston, with such severe weakness it is likely he has severe dehydration and may have developed severe pancreatitis, gastroenteritis or even a bowel obstruction. A full vet check is required urgently and he may need intravenous fluids for dehydration, blood tests and possibly an abdominal xray

My dog is lethargic and has lost her appetite, her stomach is also making loud gurgling sounds, this came on rather suddenly, what's wrong with her?
She may have ingested something that isn't agreeing with her GI tract. Monitor her and if the symptoms worsen, seek veterinary attention. If not, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet ( boiled boneless / skinless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If her appetite does not return or she begins to vomit, see your veterinarian.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I am suspicious that this could be something other than gastrointestinal issues from that. It is hard to know what exactly is going on however he is displaying some signs of potentially being sick such as labored breathing, lethargy and vomiting. I highly recommend that you have Harley evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to perform a physical examination and start there depending on what they think could be wrong. For example, if his lung sounds appear abnormal, they may proceed with chest X-rays. My dog threw up some of his stuffed toy he ate and now wont eat...he doesnt tense or show discomfort around the belly but doesnt want to eat...he shows signs of wanting to play and get bellyrubs but hasn't eaten in 24 hrs...he has drinken some water

Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Good luck and have a good night!

My Puggle got into my bathroom trash yesterday. Today she is lethargic and has dry heaved several times. She's just not acting like herself.
Try to figure out if she could have eaten anything in the trash. Tampons, sanitary pads or condoms can cause potentially life threatening blockages. If she did and she is vomiting she needs to be seen by a vet asap. Let them know what you suspect she could have eaten as this may affect diagnostics and treatment.
