My dog ate a cranberry or raisin from trail mix. Is he okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 6 lbs

My dog was chewing on what i believe was a dried cranberry (possible raisin) but i doubt it was. I was able to pick it out of his mouth. A tiny bit may have been digested. It had to be only one that was dropped out of a small trail mix bag. Do i need to take action?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Harlem. Dried cranberries are not toxic to dogs, and even if it was a raisin, he only got a tiny amount. He should be fine, and the only action I'd take is to make sure he doesn't get any more! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Unfortunately, there is no dose amount that we know is the toxic level for pets. One dog could eat one raisin and get sick and another dog could eat a 3 pound bag and not get sick. It sounds like Punkin got lucky. You can continue to monitor for vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy and take her to the vet if noted. Raisins can cause kidney disease so if you want to be thorough, you can take her to the vet for blood work to check her kidney function. Good luck and kisses to Punkin!

My dog ate a few raisins will he be okay? I have heard raisins and grapes are toxic to dogs.
Hello. This is always a bit of a quandary because there are no hard rules for raisin & grape consumption in small amounts. A few raisins in a 60-pound dog is probably or no consequence, but some dogs can react to just one. Personally, I would just watch Buddy. Most problems will develop in 6-24 hours, & consist of vomiting &/or diarrhea. If any of these should develop, get to your vet immediately. No vomiting or diarrhea by 48 hours, then he will be fine. Just be diligent in keeping an eye on him. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

My shichon (19 lbs) ate 3/4 of an iced oatmeal cookie someone dropped. The ingredients say raisin juice. Is going to be ok?
My gut reaction here is that there is not a need to be concerned. However, we don't know the exact mechanism of toxicity in grapes and raisins, so I cannot give you a 100% guarantee that there's no danger. To be on the ultra-safe side, you can call animal poison control. There is a fee, but they will have a database they can search to see if there's any reports of problems from raisin juice as an ingredient. My 4 month old Morkie puppy ate a cranberry vitamin and a b12 vitamin what should I do
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Depending on the mg of the B12 pill, this may be fine. The cranberry vitamin shouldn't cause any problems. Because I don't know the mgs of the B12 pill, I can't give an exact answer. Give the Pet Poison Hotline a call at 855-764-7661. You can tell the mg of the pill, and they can advise you further. My 14 yr old 39 lb small standard poodle just ingested approx 34 Natureavet cranberry relief tabs(with echinacea). Ingredients do not look harmful. Advice?
You may see some gastrointestinal upset (vomiting and/or diarrhea) in the next 4-12 hours. The ingredients should not cause anything worse. Withhold food for 12 hours then offer a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

My lab/retriever mix ingested 6-8 oatmeal raisin cookies. No symptoms other than diarrhea which had only happened once. He ate them about 12 hours ago. He is and 50 pounds and is acting normal aside from the diarrhea.
Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. Since it has been so long since Tucker ate the cookies, it is too late to induce vomiting. Raisins can cause acute kidney injury, causing dogs to lose the ability to concentrate their urine. If it will occur, it tends to occur within the first 24-48 hours. Signs of acute kidney injury include increased drinking and increased urination, vomiting, lethargy, and drooling. If you see any of these signs, Tucker should be seen by a veterinarian right away to have bloodwork performed and the concentration of his urine checked. If he continues to act OK for the next 2-3 days, he will likely be OK. Please try to avoid any and all raisin or grape ingestion in the future! I hope this is helpful.

Can puppies eat raisins
Hi and thank you for posting your question on Boop by Petco! The short and sweet answer is NO! Raisins are toxic to dogs. Raisins can cause renal (kidney) failure so it is important to avoid raisins as well as grapes. Other toxins to dogs are garlic, onions, chocolate, macadamia nuts, and xylitol (artificial sweetener found in certain foods like packaged chewing gum). My dog has been sick today with a UTI (I assumed because constant peeing and little energy). We got him some Naturvet cranberry relief. He is supposed to have two and he ate all 60 because the cat knocked them over. What do I do!!?!
Fortunately nothing in this list is dangerous for him even in high amounts, as far as this goes he should be fine, he might suffer from some diarrhea or vomiting but nothing serious. regarding the UTI though, this product will probably not solve the condition, you will have to take him to the vet in order to have a course of antibiotics.

My dog ate a small piece of oatmeal raisin cookie I dropped before I could stop him. I'm not sure if there was a raisin in it or not, but I know raisins are toxic to dogs. Do I need to take him to the vet? He weighs 23 or 24 lbs.
Raisin toxicity is very poorly understood but most cases of ingestion do not cause any complications at all. There are very rare cases of kidney injury from grapes and raisins so precautionary intravenous fluids and repeated blood tests to monitor kidney injury are used occasionally but the benefit is not clear in such cases.

My dog just ate 1 chocolate covered raisin. Will he be alright??
These are tough situations. The chocolate probably isn't a big concern, but it's the raisin I'm more worried about, for their potential to cause kidney failure in dogs. My best recommendation to you at this point is to seek emergency care. If it's only been an hour, it's likely that inducing vomiting cause Max to bring up the raisin, and no further problems will result. Unfortunately, we don't understand the toxic dose of raisins (or grapes) in dogs, and we don't even know what it is in them that causes kidney failure. I'd try to get it out of him now. The vet can give a medication to make him vomit quickly and safely.
