My dog scratched his cheek open and it's bleeding. Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 5 months old | 110 lbs

My dog has been scratching his left cheek for several weeks. Now today I noticed that he has scratched the area so much that he has cut open his cheek. Not sure if this is something that I should take him in for.

Ys, I would definitely take Achilles into a vet for this. It's concerning that he's scratched the area so much he has cut open his chin. I'd take him into a vet in the morning. I hope this helps!

Poor Harley. From the picture, I'm concerned about the depth of that wound, and I wonder if she was bit. Dog bites frequently become infected. I do think you should take her into a vet to get this treated.

Yes, it looks just like some sort of wound from an injury. I would not be overly worried about it at this stage. My dog is scratching his chin really hard to the point where his nails are bleeding. Also he hasn't done much moving around and just lays in one spot. I need some help
Intense itching like that is usually due to allergies or mange. In order to find out the cause, you'll have to take him to the veterinarian. I'm surprised that the nails would bleed from scratching the chin. I would expect that the chin would bleed before the nails do, so the nails may have been hurt some other way. For now, rinse the skin with cool water for 5 minutes twice a day. This will help give a little relief and help prevent infection.

my dog got scratched from a stray cat in the face and its a tiny scratch so quickly rushed to my house and put some betadine in a piece of cotton and rubbed gently. and he was vaccinated like two weeks ago. should i see a veteranian?
No need to rush Sheru into a vet now. I would gently clean his wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

It looks large enough it may need stitches but to do that at this point they would have to make it larger to get to fresh edges. You can keep it packed with neosporin but will likely need an e collar to keep him from scratching it again and restarting the healing process. I would see a vet to see about surgery or at least antibiotics to let it heal on its own

My dog is a pure breed pitbull His weight is 85lbs He started scratching in the same spot over and over and this happened I just started putting peroxide and Neosporin At night and while im gone i wrap it up What else should i do?
Poor Achilles! I would stop putting peroxide on it, as it actually damages tissues and interrupts the healing process. It sounds like this spot is really itchy to him, and it could be caused by fleas, mites, ringworm, or allergies. If he isn't up to date on his flea treatment, he will need a spot on treatment such as Advantage or Revolution. You will need to disinfect the environment as well. If he is up to date on his flea treatment, I recommend taking him into the vet for an exam tomorrow. The vet can do blood tests, skin scrapings, and use a Wood's lamp to diagnose allergies, mites, and ringworm. Once the cause of the itching is found, the vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment.

My dog has been scratching his neck a lot lately and got a big scab on it. Today we noticed that he scratched it off and now it's bleeding. What can we do to help him? He keeps wanting to scratch it and it's getting worse.
It looks like what we call a hot spot or moist dermatitis. These looks really painful. I would have him seen. He will most likely need some antibiotics and some topical medication to help dry this up. They can also give you something for the itching or pain relief. These usually heal pretty quickly once they stop messing with them.

In general there is always a risk of infection, as we are not human doctors, we can't give you any medical advise, but if you are concerned, make an apointment to see your GP so he can have a look at it and give you some treatment if needed.

So came back from a walk, realised she was bleeding from a leasion on her face, dont know why. No dog fights, only walked on grass. Maybe she scrarched it, i didnt see. Mixed .5 a traspoon of water in approx. 300ml of distilled water to imitate salin
Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. I recommend that she sees a veterinarian. The hair will need to be shaved to see the extent of the lesion. If she does not have a history of a traumatic wound, she could have an infected tooth. This can create an abscess under the skin that can rupture open. Her veterinarian will examine her and determine the best course of treatment. I hope this information helps!

Hello. I think you need to use your best judgement on this. You can try cleaning the area with a chlorhexidine or povidone-iodine skin scrub ( usually available at all pharmacies ) twice a day, & if it does not seem to be healing or appears to be getting worse over the next few days to a week & it continues to worry you, then do see your veterinarian.
