My Pitbull puppy isn't growing. Is he too small for his age?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 40 lbs

I got Chico when was 2-3 months and it's been 8 months and he doesn't seem to be getting bigger I know he's a Pitbull. I'm thinking he's a runt of the litter we got him weighed in February and he weigh 30 lbs be gonna be a year almost I believe. Does he look like a Pitbull and does he look to be to small for almost being a year he has a vet visit on april 20 but I want to be sure.

Chico is such a handsome boy! He looks like a Pitbull and males can be around 35-60 pounds when fully grown. He still has a bit of growing to do, and he may be mixed with another breed of dog leading to his smaller size. Plus he is the runt, so they do tend to be smaller. I hope this helps!

Pit Bulls can have some extreme variation in size so there is not an average for the breed. Certainly some smaller framed males will be as small as 40lbs. Some huge males may be as large as 80lbs or even bigger. This could be Little's natural body type but you should make sure his stool is checked microscopically for worms and other parasites since they will steal his nutrients and you should feed a high quality dog food. Not all foods are created equal. A diet that is highly digestible with high quality protein is more likely to help maintain a good body condition than a diet with poor quality protein. Unfortunately you can't tell just by looking at the package if the protein is high quality or not. The brand I recommend is Royal Canin. Look for one of the higher calorie formulas (this information can be found on the side of the bag). Here is a helpful chart to know if he is too skinny or not. So, i have an unfamiliar issue im dealing with, my dog yoda is bull mastiff x pitbull and hes 60 pounds soild, he looks like a regular pitbull but his sisters and brother are wayyyy bigger then him like in the 100 pounds area, even the runt is bigger
At 13 months of age, Yoda may grow just a bit more, but he is mostly done growing. Some dogs are just smaller in stature than others, regardless of having the same genetic background. It is unusual that Yoda (being a male) is smaller than his sister, but genes can do crazy things. Sixty pounds of muscle is still a pretty big dog! :-)

Hello. You have beautiful puppies & have done a great job raising them. If your veterinarian detected no abnormalities in the smaller puppy that concerned him, like a heart murmur or enlarged liver on general palpation, then I would not be concerned at all. Many times a smaller sibling will grow to eventually catch up to or surpass the larger one. I have definitely seen this in the larger breeds such as shepherds & malamutes. But given that nutrition has been the same to both puppies, it may just be a normal genetic difference in the size disparity. Do not worry. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

From the pictures he looks healthy but I would expect him to be at least 3 kg. I would recommend to feed him with a balanced and complete diet for puppies three times daily as per energy requirements (usually reported on the label).

What’s the best way to make my pit bull puppy big like some show dogs?
You want to make sure to feed a high quality diet. You also need to make sure that the growth is slow and consistent. If your puppy grows too quickly, it will be more likely to develop conditions like hip dysplasia. The diet I recommend for my large breed puppies is Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy. It will ensure even growth and the diet is highly digestible. This diet can be purchased at many pet stores or online. Proper exercise is also important but remember not to start jogging with a large breed puppy until they are at least a year old. You can damage the joints that way BUT normal things like playing or chasing the ball should be fine. Please post again if you have any further questions!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Blue sure is a handsome boy! If you keep him unneutered until at least 1 year old, this will let him grow to his fullest potential. I would also make sure to feed him a puppy-specific diet until he is at least 1 year old, and seek out a large-breed puppy formula, which helps to prevent hip problems as he grows. I wouldn't worry as much about meat - the most important nutrients for growth at his stage are fat and calories (which are found in puppy formulas). Look for an AAFCO statement on the food you buy, that says the diet is formulated for growth stages. I hope this helps, and that Blue is happy and healthy!

Even though Orux is smaller than his siblings, he can still grow to close to full size. He may be a bit smaller than them when he becomes an adult, but he should be around their size. Keep in mind that every breed has a range of sizes and weights, and dogs within that breed can go anywhere on the range. So even if he's on the smaller size, he will still be within the normal range for a Rottweiler. Only time will tell how big he will become. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the question. The ideal weight for every dog is different, and unfortunately, obesity in pets is a big problem. We see so many overweight dogs that sometimes healthy dogs look too skinny! You should be able to lightly run your fingers across the body and feel Bubbs's ribs, but not be able to see them. He should have a waist when viewed from above, and his belly should be tucked up when viewed from the side. In your pictures I do not see any ribs, so he is definitely not underweight. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! The final weight of a dog depends on breed. Large breed and giant breed dogs can grow until 2 years of age. At 4 months and weighing only 6 lbs, I would guess (without seeing a picture of your dog0 that he won't be over 15 pounds. I wish you the best!

Molly is cute! Given the mix, she will likely be 50-60lbs when she is fully grown but some pitties can be small (40lbs or so). She should be eating a large breed puppy food until she is 1 year old.
