Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Skyler. Great question! I recommend Royal Canin Small Adult 8+ dry dog food. This helps maintain a healthy weight, has small, highly palatable kibble, and enhanced palatability. I would feed this to her. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would recommend that you switch her to a canned or wet diet that may be easier for her to eat. Also, if she appears to have a severe dental disease, an evaluation by a veterinarian is warranted. They may be able to evaluate her teeth and see if she would benefit from having a dental cleaning or perhaps having teeth extractions. Good luck and have a good night!

Provide food that is high in calories, like puppy food or a food that’s designed for active, athletic, or working dogs. Higher protein and fat pet foods are best. Underweight pets should be eating foods that are around 30% protein and 20% fat if they’re eating dry kibble; 7% protein and 5% fat (or higher) if you’re feeding a wet food. Intersperse your pet’s diet with small amounts of high-calorie supplemental canned food or canned products made of 100% meat sources. These will have a high protein and fat content, like 100% pheasant or bison, for example. They won’t say “complete and balanced” but rather “for intermittent or supplemental use” because they’re not meant to replace regular feeding. Some moist foods may be easier to digest, so your pet may retain more nutrients, and more importantly these products tend to be more palatable and tempting to a pet who isn’t eating enough. Any diet changes should be done gradually over a week's time as to not cause any GI upset. Hope this

Before changing food I would actually recommend going to the veterinary visit you have scheduled. I would recommend getting some blood work done to make sure there is nothing systemically causing the weight loss. Once we determine there is nothing else going on with him then I would discuss what type of food he is currently on and seeing if a change in diet is ideal. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

You should feed her according to the instructions on the bag, and only give her that amount. It's fine to feed her the senior pouches. I hope this helps!

Hello. Have you tried any canned, wet or soft-moist foods? Some dogs do seem to prefer this as they age. I would especially try the FreshPet diet as many pets really seem to like it. If he continues to refuse to eat, you should have Dash evaluated by your veterinarian as there could be an underlying reason for his refusal to eat. Good luck & thanks for using Boop by Petco.

First off, I would check with your vet to make sure that he actually does need to gain weight. I often see dogs that are a very healthy weight but the owners think that their dog needs to gain weight because they are used to seeing overweight dogs. A good rule of thumb is that in short-haired dogs you should be able to actually see the last rib in the rib cage, not just be able to feel ribs. If your vet does indeed think Blue is too thin, he/she may be able to recommend a good high quality prescription diet like Royal Canin High Energy that is designed to provide increased calories without causing digestive problems.

First of all, you should get Zorro checked by your regular vet, as he has lost a lot of weight. Weight loss could be due to liver or kidney disease but it is also commonly seen in diabetes, hormonal disfunction or even tumors. Zorro should have a blood and urine test done first (and possibly abdominal scan and chest x-ray), and if the results are negative, you can think to increase the calories intake. Giving food for young, active/working dogs is one of the option. But if Zorro, for example suffers from diabetes, he will continue losing weight regardless what he is feed until the diabetes gets under control.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. It's great that you are adopting a dog, congratulations and have fun with her! Start by feeding a bland diet (boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breast and boiled rice) in small frequent meals. Do that for 2-3 days, and then introduce puppy kibble to her. The puppy food is higher in fat and energy that she needs. Transition to this puppy food over about 2 weeks. Keep her on the puppy food for about 2 months, and then slowly transition her over to adult food. Best of luck with Macy!

I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is highly digestible without fillers so pets generally have only a small amount of stool production. It is also a great brand for healthy coat and skin. I also like the brand Purina Proplan. I hope this helps.
