Should my dog stay home alone or with a neighbor when I start work?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 9 lbs

I will be starting work 5 days a week 6 hrs a day. My question is should I let my neighbor watch my dog at her house or keep her home. She's fine alone. I don't want her to get to attached to my neighbor, but if its better for her to be walk and have company. I'm confused this is the first time I'm working I was at home all the time.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Maggie. This is a great question! If she's fine being home alone, I would do that, but have your neighbor come over once a day around lunch to take her for a walk and play with her. That way, she gets some love, attention, and exercise, but stays at home. I hope this helps!
