My puppy suddenly pees everywhere, even leaving a trail. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old

My puppy was trained on puppy pads fairly early. For the last month or so he has been urinating everywhere! I feel like he has a bladder control problem he starts peeing as he’s walking and leaves a trail. I don’t know what I’m to do, super frustrating. No matter how I space out his water and take him outside. The second he walks out of his crate he’s peeing somewhere he shouldn’t.

That sounds very frustrating! You'll need to have Beckham evaluated by a vet. If he was previously well house trained and is suddenly having accidents, he could have a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, urine crystals, or any other number of underlying causes. Your vet will likely want to start by taking a look at a urine sample, which will indicate if there's infection or urinary crystals present. Hope this helps!
