Is raw dog food safe for my German Shepherd puppy, or wet food?

Hi there i have a 6 month german shperd i got her at 4 months her names Bailey i just wanted to get some suggestions on some healthy food diets or recommendations for her i have been feeding her diamond dog food which has fatty acids,DHA and other chicken ingredients but i just wanna get her to eat sonething thats also not dry so i was thinking on a raw food diet can you help plz

Do not give Bailey a raw diet. There is no proof these are beneficial for dogs and are often imbalanced nutritionally. In addition, there is a risk she could get sick from E. coli and Salmonella, and so can you. You'd be hard pressed to find any vet who would recommend a raw diet. I'd give her canned food.     Raw food can sometimes carry pathogens that can make your dog sick, so if you are feeding a raw diet be sure to get it from a reputable source. Otherwise, feeding a commercial diet is usually safer and better nutritionally balanced. If she isn't interested in eating it, you can add a little low-sodium plain chicken broth to her kibble to help make it more enticing. If she is acting ill and isn't vaccinated, a vet visit to rule out any health issues such as parvo or other viruses is a good idea. It is also a good idea to get her caught up on all vaccines to avoid contracting illnesses.

Great question! Wet food mixed with a kibble diet is better for Fenrir. I never recommend raw diets. There is too much risk of him getting sick from bacteria that is present in raw food, and there is a risk of you getting sick from making the meals and him passing it along to you (i.e. eating the food and then licking your face). There have been numerous cases of dogs getting sick on the raw food diet. In addition, there's no proof that raw diets are beneficial to dogs. I would keep him on his current diet. I personally never recommend giving a raw food diet. There is no scientific proof is it beneficial to dogs, and there is a risk of poisoning from E.coli and Salmonella due to the raw meat. In addition, growing puppies need higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than adult dogs to grow properly, and a raw food diet will not meet those needs. No, I strongly urge you not to do it and you'd be hard pressed to find any vet who would recommend it. It's a fad and it's dangerous for both Kingston and you. Raw food diets contain bacteria like E coli and Salmonella, which poses a risk of poisoning him and you. You can get sick from handling it, and even sick from him licking you because the bacteria lives on his tongue for hours afterwards. In addition, these diets are often imbalanced nutritionally, and it's so vital to have a balanced diet for a growing puppy. I have a vet colleague that just saw an 8 month old puppy who was fed a rad diet and due to the nutritional deficiencies had broken his hip and had severe bone deformities. There is no scientific evidence it's beneficial at all, and all there are is bad things with it. You should feed him a dry puppy food such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Iams. I hope this helps.

I have been feeding my puppy the BARF diet. A friend told me it's not healthy but I've done research on how it has alot of benefits. Should I keep feeding him Raw food?
While a raw diet does have increased risk of exposure to bacteria and parasites, if you prepare it properly (or purchase from reputable sources) and practice basic hygiene then you and your pup should be fine. If Blue is doing well on it (eating well, gaining weight, no GI issues, etc), then there is no reason to transition him to a more traditional diet. Discuss any additional concerns with your veterinarian at Blue's next vaccine appointment.

I personally never recommend feeding dogs raw diets. You are correct that raw meat is dangerous to humans, and it can be dangerous to dogs as well. They can also get E coli and salmonella poisoning from eating it. In addition, it is extremely difficult to give your dog a balanced diet with a home diet including all the nutrients they need to be healthy. Instead, I recommend feeding your dog a high quality dry food food, such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet.

Congratulations your new addition! Truthfully, I never recommend raw diets to any dog of any age. Just like humans, dogs can become ill from bacteria (such as Listeria or Salmonella) present in raw meats, and can infect people that they lick after eating raw meats. Puppies in particular have more specific nutritional requirements to maintain optimal growth. For this reason, I encourage feeding a commercial dog food formulated either for puppies or all life stages. Royal Canin, Science Diet and Purina ProPlan are all good quality brands of food with a significant amount of research and clinical testing behind them. The bag of dog food generally has a chart that depicts how much Maggie should eat given her current age and body weight. Each food has a different caloric density, so continue to follow the recommendations on the food as she grows. After 1 year of age, you can switch to an adult diet, but anytime you change Maggie's food, be sure to do so by gradually mixing old and new foods

Why everyone is giving their Great Danes raw food diet? Is it Healthy.. I am giving my puppy only dry foods. Is it gonna be a problem?
I actually prefer commercial dog food as it includes the proper balance of nutrition that they need. A lot of raw food diets don’t have the proper studies to back it up and they don’t have the proper nutrients in them. Also, dogs who eat raw food diet are st higher risk for bacterial infections like salmonella. I think as long a syou are giving a high quality large breed or giant breed puppy food like science diet, Iams, or royal canin then he should grown normally. I hope this helps!

what food is better Raw or cooked? Is a raw diet beneficial?
In general, cooked food is significantly safer than raw food which may contains parasites and bacteria which can cause a severe infection. all dogs are susceptible to malnutrition when diets are not balanced. Pregnant females and their developing/growing puppies are especially susceptible. I recommend to feed a high quality, fortified, balanced commercial diet such as Royal Canin or Purina because it is formulated to contain all the needed vitamins and minerals with the proper ratios. In relation to this article on choosing right food for my 3 yr old dog. A friend swears by RAW food and that’s all she gives her little dog. What is your opinion of RAW food for my dog?
Personally, I don't approve of raw diets as there are way too many issues with them. First off, you have to make sure you're sourcing products that are safe, however with any raw food you are always running the risk of introducing bacteria and pathogens not only to your dog eating it, but if your dog licks you or your family -- especially if anyone including your pet is immunocompromised. Secondly, balancing nutrition can be hard with a raw diet. It isn't a matter of just giving a piece of bone with meat on it and being done. You have to make sure there are the right balance of proteins, fats, carbs, vitamins, minerals, etc being given, and formulating the correct diet for your dog's needs can be time-consuming with creating food at home, regular vet visits and bloodwork to monitor nutrition, etc. It's often why people go for commercial diets as they are convenient, safer usually, and already nutritionally balanced. Benefits in feeding my dogs raw foods instead of kibble food?
Unfortunately there are no proven, scientific benefits to feed a raw diet to dogs. Many times they are unbalanced nutritionally, and they pose quite a risk to getting both the dog and owner sick. They can cause E coli and salmonella poisoning in the dog, and the owner can get that from handling the food or even being licked by the dog. This bacteria can be on the tongue and in the mouth for a while after eating. There have been many cases of severe GI illness in dogs who have been fed raw diets. I never recommend it. Dog kibble is balanced nutritionally, and there is no risk of you or Charlie getting things like E coli and Salmonella from it. I'd feed him a kibble diet. Best of luck.
