Dog scraped paw pad, licking it. Should I bandage or see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 5 months old | 26 lbs

My dog has scraped his carpal pad not deep, but a small amount of skin has come off. He's not limping but he does keep licking it. We keep cleaning it, but does it need to be bandaged? Should he go to the vet?

Yes, I'd have Milo seen by a vet to make sure it's not infected since he has been licking at it. Put a cone on him until you can get him into a vet. You can make one at home, and I will put a link below on how to do this: http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html

Ouch, that's a big enough tear it should be seen by your vet. At the very least they can clip back the hair, thoroughly clean it, and then provide you with pain medications and antibiotics for Ave so it doesn't get infected. Until you can get into your vet, it is best to keep the foot clean and dry and to NOT let him lick it. Licking will introduce bacteria that will cause further inflammation and potential infection. You can use an Elizabethan (cone) collar to keep him from doing so. I would also limit all activity to leashed walks only for potty breaks to prevent him from putting more weight on the injured pad which can lead to more pain.

My dog played fetch for an extended period of time yesterday and tore his paw pad. I keep bandaging it but every time I look away he’ll take it off and lick it excessively. He is limping as well and has a hard time walking outside to relieve himself.
It should heal on its own, but if he is painful, then a visit to the vet would be recommended. Your vet can dispense pain medication and may recommend an antibiotic. Place an e-collar on Kaner to prevent licking which can delay healing. If possible, carry him to his area that he uses for elimination then carry him back. If he will use a pee pad, you can place one just outside the door to minimize the walking distance.

I definitely would have Lola seen by a vet for this, but if it isn't deep or long, it can wait until the morning. Right now, the most important thing is to stop her from licking at it, as that will introduce infection into the wound. If she is licking at the paw, it most likely is painful. Dogs tend to lick areas in order to sooth the pain. They also do this in an attempt to reduce inflammation, but ultimately it results in the exact opposite. Unfortunately from the picture, I can't get a perfect idea of what's going on and I don't know exactly how / what type of injury occurred. Thus, I don't whether or not you should be seeking medical attention for Coco. Assuming the injury isn't serious, the most important thing you can do is prevent further self-inflicted harm while still allowing the area that is affect to be open and clean. In order to do this, Coco will need to wear a cone. You can obtain one at some pet stores, online, or at a vet office without an appointment. Healing might go faster if you went to the vet to obtain some anti-inflammatory medication, and so he can assess the need to potentially add antibiotics. Be sure to keep the area covered with a plastic bag or sock when Coco is going outside

Poor Kiba! This licking can be due to an injury, infection, or allergies. The only way to know for sure is how have him seen by a vet, and I do recommend taking him in tomorrow if possible. I would put an Ecollar on him tonight to keep him from licking it, and I will put a link below on how to make one at home. I found a weird cut on my dog’s back foot. What should I do? He’s acting normal, he’s not limping, I have no idea when he got it. I never heard him cry. He just keeps licking it.
Poor baby. I would recommend getting him an ecollar cone to keep him from licking, cleaning the area with a moist washcloth, and applying a.teiple antibiotic. I would then give your veterinarian a call tomorrow for an appointment to be checked out. Good luck

My dog looks like it received a bad bug bite on his foot between his toes on top of his paw. It swelled into a large red bump. I soaked it with Epsom put aloe on it and wrapped it. He keeps taking off the bandage and licking it. The selling went down
Yes, I would get a cone. Be sure that the cone extends past the end of his nose or he will still be able to lick. This could be a serious problem. Bumps between the toes can be anything from a cyst, to a tumor to an abscess. You can keep soaking it with Epsom salts. You can apply the aloe but it's not likely to help; Neosporin would be better. I suggest you don't wrap it. If you bandage it too tight or incorrectly then you can cause more damage. If after 4-5 days he is not better you need to get him to the vet for an exam.

Ouch, poor Koda! It looks like he injured his pad, and it could be that it's torn. I would say it definitely needs veterinary treatment, as it may need some stitches or surgical glue to help it heal correctly. In addition, it's clearly painful to him as he's limping. I would bandage it to keep it clean and dry, and take him into the vet tomorrow or Monday. You may need to put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking at it. Our dog tore her back pad yesterday afternoon. Cleaned it yesterday. Today she's licking it and the pad seems to be coming off a bit. Should we just wrap it? Trying to determine if it needs more help.
Ouch! Yes, keep that clean (using warm mild soapy water, or an epsom salt bath soak a couple times daily). You can apply a topical ointment such as neosporin, and keep Barli from licking it with either a sock (taped just above the foot to keep it on - but make sure it's not too tight) or with a cone/E-collar. These can take several weeks to fully heal, but if it doesn't look like it's improving in the next few days, then you should have Barli seen by the vet. Mostly, you're watching for evidence of infection, including redness, swelling, and discharge. Do *not* give any pain meds. There aren't any human pain meds that are safe and effective, and anything you give may interfere with a more effective medication that your vet may prescribe. Hope this helps!

Ouch! That does look like a bit of a sore spot. If you have an appointment already scheduled, I would just place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Bentley to prevent him from continuing to lick the food as licking it can make the spot worse and introduce bacteria/cause an infection in an already inflamed wound. Keeping the sore spot clean and dry with the use of a washcloth is also a good idea until your appointment. If you do see any rapid changes in size, it starts oozing debris badly, or it is painful enough that Bentley can't walk on it, then trying to get in for an appointment sooner is best.
