Is my dog's daily eye gunk normal, or should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 8 months and 8 days old | 80 lbs

My dog always has a lot of eye gunk in the morning. Probably a glob half the size of a pencil eraser in each eye every morning and again when I get home from work. He doesn’t paw at his eye, doesn’t squint and hasn’t shown any sign of it bothering him. There’s no odor either. This morning though there was a lot more. It was no longer just in the corner of his eye but along the whole eyelid and still inside his eye too. It is still not showing any signs of irritating him.

There is something going on if this is happening every day. It could just be allergies, mild conjunctivitis, or something more serious like KCS/chronic dry eye. You can call your vet to see if they can take Dhruva in for evaluation, or continue to wipe away the discharge and watch for any other abnormal symptoms.
